10,000 litres of Crown Paints leaves a flawless finish on Joules HQ.
Designer lifestyle brand Joules used almost 10,000 litres of paint from Crown Paints to create a new and unique headquarters for its brand in Market Harborough, Leicester.
The 60,000 sq ft building, developed by Bailey Construction (Derby) Ltd, aims to put Joules’ product design and creativity at the centre of the business’ headquarters.
With enough room to house the brand’s entire operation under one roof for the first time, it was critical that the quality of the building reflected the brand’s heritage and ambitions.
The design reflects the new HQ’s beautiful rural surroundings, which was a key consideration in the paint specification. The building itself resembles a barn structure and celebrates nature, including surrounding wildflowers and even a bug hotel.
The colour needed to be fresh and light as a result. Working in collaboration with Bailey Construction (Derby) Ltd, Crown Paints created a bespoke off-white called Bailey Joules, which was used throughout the building to create a clean and classic look.
Crown Trade Covermatt Emulsion, which is specially formulated for first-time decoration of new build interiors, was used throughout the interior. It allows substrates to breathe without compromising on the opacity or finish. It was complemented with Crown Trade Acrylic Eggshell, a fast drying and virtually odour free emulsion.
On the internal doors, 200 litres of Crown Trade Fastflow Quick Dry System was used. Its water-based system provides an alternative to solvent-based paints while providing the perfect finish. Crown Trade Clean Extreme Mould Inhibiting Scrubbable Matt, a stain resistant formula that defends against mould growth, in Bailey Joules was used in washrooms throughout the project. Meanwhile on the ceilings, a mixture of Crown Trade RAL 9016 was used along with 200 litres of Crown Trade Aluminium Paint for the metalwork, which maintains a reflective metallic effect. This helped to retain the look of the metal features in the interior design.
Nick Jones, CEO of Joules, said: “We’re delighted with the design and finish of our new headquarters in our hometown of Market Harborough. Print and bold, bright colours are critical elements of the Joules brand that customers around the world have loved for more than 30 years. The quality of the paints supplied by Crown Paints and their understanding of what we wanted to achieve in colour has helped make this new office feel truly connected to our brand and business.” Bruce Kennedy, Contractor Sales Manager, at Crown Paints, said: “The architecture behind this building is phenomenal. While the building itself is large, it complements its local surroundings – as if it has been there for years.
“It’s great to be able to work alongside Bailey Construction to supply the paint for a project like this, which places so much emphasis on good quality design and high specification. We’ve built a strong relationship with the team at Bailey Construction over the last few years, and working alongside Head Painter Paul Madden and Quantity Surveyor Ian Davies on this project has been excellent. “We hope Joules’ staff enjoy the space for many, many years to come.”
