There's a reason why the outdoor/indoor trend has prevailed in commercial interiors for so long. And it's not simply down to just one factor. The mirroring of colours and textures found in nature is strongly suggested to have a positive impact on peoples' wellbeing.

According to a study published on Science Direct, wood texture "is able to reduce ANS activity (heart rate and sweat response) without conscious perception."

In a similar vein, warm, rich colour palettes are taking centre stage in commercial interiors, for their ability to subconsciously boost wellbeing. Pantone chose a particularly vivid magenta for its 2023 Colour of the Year, with Leatrice Eiseman, executive director, Pantone Color Institute, citing the inspiration as "nature and what is real" in an otherwise technologically focused age.

Laura Perryman, CMF designer and colour expert, suggested in a recent interview this lean towards warmer, natural palettes may be inspired by the wider adoption of bio-based materials: "We've seen a massive uptake in natural colour over the past couple of years, where designers are making plant based dyes, growing plants for colour and using waste colour from food sources. And that's giving us a much wider, actually quite a warm palette."

With the impact of nature-inspired colour and texture firmly in mind, British flooring manufacturer Amtico’s in-house design team has evolved its offering to tap into the trend for more grounded, earthy shades. With environments clearly becoming a lot more natural and calming, the designers acknowledged the new hues needed to work within those schemes - introducing the 'Colour & Abstract' palette, as part of the Signature collection launch, in response.

This sits alongside the new Woods and Stones, with new Metals - and the expertly curated update to the iconic Colour Edit.

Colour Edit

The palette embraces tone-on-tone and dichotomous design, where contrasting colours meet naturals. The 15 new shades, including Diffusion Aloe, Stucco Haze and Encaustic Okra, can be easily used within commercial spaces to harmoniously divide a space, whether as a single colour, creating impact with colour play and complementary shades or partnered with Woods and Stones.

In addition to this rich, warming palette, the Amtico Signature collection - designed and manufactured in Coventry - offers an array of statement colours and textures, from authentic weathered metals to painterly pigments.

New Metals

Burnished and heavily pigmented, the four new Metals are versatile and combine beautifully with each other as well as across the whole floor as a feature. The hyper-realistic designs are created using clever layering techniques with pearl pigments and inks, which interact with light to create the illusion of real burnished, weathered metals. Whether a small feature area in Parquet, or big bold tile formats, the Metals provide a key point of interest.

As well as aesthetically boosting wellbeing, Amtico Signature LVT flooring has a durable 1mm wear layer, a 20-year commercial warranty and antimicrobial protection against bacteria and viruses to physically impact wellness too. Moreover, Signature, which is made-to-order in Coventry, can also be specified as 36+ safety flooring, with Acoustic impact sound reduction backing or with Amtico's bio-attributed PVC option.
