Exploring the sustainable future of work at Orgatec 2024.

This week, the Material Source team will land in Cologne for the 2024 instalment of Orgatec (22-25 October).

Exploring the future of workplace through a circular lens, the show particularly resonates with our own approach to championing materiality and products created out of sustainable practice. And that goes for the sustainability of the planet, and the support and wellbeing of people too.

If you're visiting Orgatec and would like to meet, please get in touch. And ahead of the opening, here are some of the brands we're most looking forward to seeing...

Vepa

For this year's Orgatec, Vepa's stand will present a smorgasbord of sustainability-centred products, from its hemp stools to recycled plastic Blue Finn chairs, felt, and some completely new material uses and products never-before-unveiled by the brand - until now.

If you're not already familiar with the Vepa narrative, its entire ethos is based on the innovative use, and re-use, of renewable or would-be-waste resources.

And not only do its products feel good in terms of their make-up, but they look great too. Colour and shape combine beautifully with earthy, grounded tones paired with brighter pops for altogether joyful furniture pieces, perfectly positioned for the future of workplace.

Camira

This year marks 50 years since Camira was founded under the name Camborne Fabrics in the UK. So to celebrate this moment in the organisation's history, the team will be showcasing its latest sustainable innovations at Orgatec.

Camira will also introduce its brand new Camira Circular label, which "highlights our commitment to regenerative manufacturing, responsible material use and environmental product stewardship.

"We've always been pioneers when it comes to the sustainable understanding of textiles and we've been producing recycled fabrics for more than 20 years. But with more new products than ever before this year, Orgatec 2024 is set to be the best event yet."

EGE Carpets

At Orgatec, EGE puts a spotlight on its rug offer - carpets that are like islands, as the brand puts it.

Individual carpets in a wide range of sizes and shapes can now be created effortlessly thanks to the new “Any shape, any size” rug concept - which will be launched at Orgatec.

The Danish manufacturer makes it possible to transform the diverse wishes of its customers into tailor-made carpets: size, shape, colour, material and edging can be selected from the Ege range.

Designs can be customised with expert support or selected from a wide range of designs. “The new concept offers an incredible number of opportunities to create absolutely unique carpets."

Keeping sustainability firmly in mind, the rugs are made from 100% wool, in line with the fact that by 2030, Ege Carpets wants to increase its consumption of recycled or renewable raw materials to 75%.

Humanscale

Humanscale will present Connected during Orgatec, revealing a world where workspace design, ergonomic wellness, and environmental impact are intricately interwoven, shaping individual experiences and the global ecosystem.

This showcase advocates for a system approach, where sustainability principles, intelligent design and flexible work models converge. The Connected exhibit at Orgatec illuminates a powerful web of relationships. Sergio Silva VP, design & innovation at Humanscale explains:

“By harmonising the principles of sustainability, intelligent design, and flexible work models, our commitment to responsible manufacturing becomes a catalyst for industry change. Together, Humanscale creates a portfolio of products that not only nurtures a sense of community and responsibility, but also propels us towards a future where our connection with each other and the Earth thrive in coexistence.

"This is a call to action, a chance to weave a brighter future where purpose, well-being, and sustainability are not separate threads, but a unified mosaic pieced together by all of us.”

The exhibit intentionally highlights two key concepts: "Ergonomics Everywhere," which promotes ergonomic well-being beyond the traditional office setting, and "Planet Positive," which advocates for a reimagined supply chain that equally prioritises the needs of the environment and people.
