Color Factory, the interactive exhibition that debuted in San Francisco last August, is back with a fresh palette for its new home in New York City.

Based in 20,000 square feet of space in SoHo’s Hudson Square, the show features a giant blue ball pit, a hanging sculpture made up of hundreds of coloured ribbons by French artist Emmanuelle Moureaux and a room full of balloons, floating around a wind machine.

"We will feature brand-new participatory installations of colours we’ve collected around the city – hues that invite curiosity, discovery and play," explains Color Factory. "Some of our favourite artists, creatives, designers and makers are teaming up with us to tell their unique colour stories and engage all of your senses in unexpected ways."

Expect to carry out a personality test by following an infographic drawn onto the floors and walls of one room, the result of which will give you a specific colour. Then, you can enjoy a disco-themed space where the entire floor lights up in your personality's hue.

Elsewhere, there's a Manhattan Color Walk, a special colour installation by Color Factory in the garden at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, free and designed for all to enjoy.

"From the buckets of lavender mums at the corner bodega to the forest green scaffolding covering a building under construction, Manhattan Color Walk pays special homage to all the colours that make New York City unique," reads the website's statement. "Each colour in the striped installation corresponds to a specific moment encountered by the Color Factory creative team while walking and exploring 265 streets – from the uppermost part of Manhattan at West 220th Street down to Battery Park.

"The Color Factory team walked over 50 miles and took more than a thousand photos over the course of a few weeks to create this portrait of the city. Manhattan Color Walk is a new kind of map, showcasing the colours and diverse stories that bring New York City to life and encouraging visitors to consider how colour can help define a place and contribute to our sense of togetherness."

Open daily from 10am until 11pm, Colour Factory on Spring Street, New York is fully accessible to everyone but tickets must be purchased online. Find out more: colorfactory.co.
